Kid's Training Swimwear Sizing Guide

How to Choose the Correct Size Swimwear for Your Kids
This handy guide shows you how to measure your child correctly. So, you can select swimwear in the optimum size and your little one can swim in comfort. We also share a few tips that will help swim parents!
Measuring Training Swimwear for Girls
- You should use a chest measurement when looking for a girl's swimming costume.
- Use a tape measure under the arms, around the widest part of the chest. Measure all the way around and record the size in inches.
- Most swimwear brands will label their swimsuits using the chest measurement size in inches. Sometimes age is used but if you check the label there should also be a number to help you.
- Compare the measurement with brand size charts to select the right size.
- If your child is taller and thinner you may need to consider choosing the size above.

How the Fit should Look
The swimsuit should be tight on the torso with no creases or spare fabric to grab. Check the shoulder straps are tight, they should only raise a couple of inches when pulled up.
Extra Fitting Tips & Swim Parent Hints
- Tight costumes may not feel right to new swimmers, but oversized swimsuits will cause friction and red sore marks.
- For children with sensitive skin, costumes with thin straps will help. Lycra swimsuits are softer but will not last as long as chlorine resistant polyester swimwear.
- Always choose a chlorine resistant fabric (PBT) where you can, to ensure a long life span.
- Brands cater for slightly differing body shapes, so try them all on to find your perfect shape.
- Don't machine wash your kids' swimwear, this will actually cause damage and decrease their life span.
- Simply rinse the chlorine off with fresh water.
Measuring Training Swimwear for Boys
- Measure waist size for boys swimwear.
- Use a tape measure around the narrowest part of the waist just below the belly button.
- Measure all the way around and write down the size in inches
- This can then be used against the brands' size charts to select the correct size.
- Most swimwear brands will display a waist measurement on labels.
- If your child’s waist measurement is in between the brand's sizes, choose the size above for comfort.
- If choosing a training jammer the leg does not need to go all the way down to the knee.

How the Fit Should Look
Trunks and jammers should have a tight fit on the legs to keep water out. Jammer's should end a couple of inches above the knee for the perfect fit.
Extra Fitting Tips
- Use the waistband drawstring only as extra security, it should not be relied upon to keep trunks or jammer's up. If this is happening they are too big.
- Brands cater for different body types, try them all on to get your perfect fit.
